The climate, in general, is oceanic its summer temperatures ranging from 12¡É to 25¡É and its winter 0~10¡É. Though the average temperature rises closer to the coast, it is not as high as the coasts of Ireland and England where the influence of the Atlantic on the climate is greater.

In spite of attempts to unify the national languages since 1831, speakers of Dutch make up about 58%, French 32%, and German 10% while many are bilingual speaking Dutch and French. About 75 percent of the Belgians are Roman Catholic while many Protestants live in industrial areas and cities.

Relationship with Korea

After establishing diplomatic relations in May 1962, Korea opened an embassy in Belgium in November 1965 and Belgium in Korea in February 1970. Agreements concluded between the two nations include the Goods Protection of January 1962, the Visas Waiver of June 1970, the Korea-Belgium Investment Guarantee of December 1974, the Aviation of October 1975, the Double Taxation Avoidance of August 1977, and the Shipping Agreement of January 1987.

Its exports to Korea were worth US$ 474,890 thousand, and the imports from Korea amounted to 1,039,010 thousand US dollars in 1998. It mainly sold chemicals, machinery, and communications equipment to Korea and bought ships, steel, clothes and electric appliances from Korea. Korean immigrants and expatriates number 116 and 424 respectively.
