UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

Dear Korean War Veterans Hello, I’m Lee Garam from South Korea. I’m 17 years old and became a high school student this year. I’m very excited to go to the new school however I can’t go. I’m not the only one who can’t go to school. Almost every student all around the world is staying at their home instead of going to school. This is because of the virus called COVID-19 (also called Corona Virus) which is very dangerous to humans. The starting day of school had already postponed twice and I think we will have an online class from next week. It is amazing that this is the first time the new semester starts in April and the first time we have online classes at home. A lot of people all around the world have been infected and some passed away because of this virus. It has a strong propagation so everyone in my country wears masks when they go outside. Therefore the masks became a precious item, and it is very hard to buy nowadays. Also, no one plays group sports such as soccer and baseball because everybody must stay at home as possible as they can. This situation is such a torture for me since I really love to play those group sports! My family and I are being very careful not to be infected with this virus. We have two elders and one baby which can be fatal if they get infected. Thus we wash our hands once an hour and try to stay home until the virus disappears. I know that this is the only choice to save our health but still it is not that easy to stay at home. Many doctors and nurses are volunteering to resolve this situation, in the result, the number of infectees is decreasing. I really wish this virus would disappear from the Earth. By the way, the reason why I’m telling you about the circumstances is that it is the country that you saved a long ago. I really want to give thanks to all your devotion to my country. You are the hero and everyone in South Korea says the same way. It is very touching that you had come to this far country to fight for us. I’m pretty sure that you were very young at that time and it is surprising that you had given up the chance to enjoy your youth to come to my country to join the Korean War. If I were you, I could not decide to join the war since I’m not a brave person as you. The achievement that you had made is immense. South Korea has been developed a lot since the 1950s. It became totally different place contrast to the time that you came here. We could develop and prosper because there was your valuable sacrifice toward my country and the world peace. I really respect you and love you. I will never forget you and always keep you in mind. Thank you, Veterans.
