존경하는 영국 6·25 참전용사 여러분께
8월 19일, 저희 PKNU 학생봉사단 2기는 여러분께 깊은 감사와 존경의 마음을 전합
니다.
6·25전쟁 당시 대한민국은 전쟁의 참화 속에 있었습니다. 많은 사람들이 삶의 터전과
가족을 잃었지만, 자유와 평화를 지키기 위해 수많은 분들이 싸워주셨습니다. 그중에
는 대한민국과 직접적인 인연이 없었음에도 먼 나라에서 이곳까지 와주신 영국의 젊
은 장병들이 있었습니다.
여러분께서는 사랑하는 가족을 뒤로하고 낯선 땅에서 전쟁의 위험을 감수하셨습니다.
그 과정에서 목숨을 잃거나 부상을 입은 많은 참전용사들의 희생을 생각하며 깊은 존
경을 표합니다.
오늘날 대한민국은 전쟁의 폐허를 딛고 발전하여 자유와 평화를 누리는 나라가 되었
습니다. 저희가 지금 대학에서 공부하고 미래를 꿈꾸며 평범한 일상을 살아갈 수 있
는 것 또한 여러분과 같은 분들의 희생이 있었기에 가능했다고 생각합니다.
저희는 전쟁을 직접 경험하지 않았기에 당시의 고통을 모두 이해할 수는 없습니다.
하지만 여러분의 희생을 잊지 않고 기억하는 것이 저희가 할 수 있는 가장 작은 보답
이라고 생각합니다.
또한 오늘 이 자리에서 여러분의 희생을 되새기며, 평화가 결코 당연하게 주어진 것
이 아니라는 사실을 마음 깊이 새기겠습니다. 앞으로 저희가 살아갈 사회에서도 서로
를 존중하고 평화를 소중히 여기는 마음을 실천하며, 여러분께서 지켜주신 소중한 가
치를 이어가겠습니다.
앞으로도 여러분께서 지켜주신 자유와 평화의 가치를 소중히 여기며, 그 희생의 의미
를 다음 세대에도 전하겠습니다.
대한민국을 위해 헌신하신 모든 영국 6·25 참전용사 여러분께 진심으로 감사드립니
다.
여러분의 희생을 잊지 않고 기억하겠습니다.

To the Honorable British Veterans of the Korean War,
On August 19, we, the members of the second PKNU Student Volunteer Corps, would like to express our deepest gratitude and respect to all of you.
During the Korean War, the Republic of Korea was engulfed in the devastation of war. Many people lost their homes and families, yet countless individuals fought to defend freedom and peace. Among them were young British soldiers who came from a distant land to Korea, despite having no direct connection to our country.
You left your beloved families behind and came to an unfamiliar land, risking your lives in the face of war. We express our deepest respect and gratitude as we remember the many veterans who lost their lives or were wounded in the course of their service.
Today, the Republic of Korea has risen from the ruins of war and grown into a nation where we can enjoy freedom and peace. We believe that our ability to study at university, dream of our futures, and live our everyday lives is possible because of the sacrifices made by people like you.
As we have never experienced war ourselves, we cannot fully understand the pain and hardships you endured. However, we believe that remembering and honoring your sacrifices is the smallest way we can repay the debt of gratitude we owe you.
Today, as we reflect on your sacrifices, we will keep in our hearts the truth that peace is never something to be taken for granted. In the society we will build together, we will strive to respect one another, cherish peace, and carry forward the precious values that you protected for us.
We will continue to honor the values of freedom and peace that you defended and pass on the meaning of your sacrifices to future generations.
To all the British Korean War veterans who devoted themselves to the Republic of Korea, we offer our deepest and most sincere gratitude.
We will never forget your sacrifice.
