Burial Story
Fusilier Batey was from Bedlington, Northumberland, where he was a well-known sportsman and worked in the local coal mine. He served in the army in the Second World War and was injured in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day and was called up as a reservist for the Korean War. He left a widow and a three year-old son.
