Burial Story

Pte Annan was the son of David Nicholson and Kate Mary (nee Maclean) from the Isle of Skye, Scotland. He had been a forestry worker since July 1948 at Glenbrittle on the island until called up in 1949. He is remembered on the Portree War Memorial on Skye. According to the Chosun Ilbo, in 1966 a Mr Kim Dong-il from Seoul was studying in the UK and visited Skye. Seeing the memorial, he sought out the farm of Pte Annan's mother and she asked him to take back some soil and daffodils to place on his grave in Busan. Mr Kim fulfilled this task on UN Day, 24 October 1966.
