Burial Story

Trooper Cyril Adams, 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars, born 1918, the son of Warren and Florence (nee Leader) Adams of Somersham, Huntingdonshire.
He enlisted in the British Army in February 1939 and in 1940 deployed as part of the British Expeditionary Force in France, subsequently taking part in the evacuation from Dunkirk. He served throughout the remainder of the war.  He married Hazel Hart in 1944 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, having a son and a daughter.
At the outbreak of the Korean War he was mobilised to serve with the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars as a tank crewman serving in Cromwell tanks. In January 1951 his regiment, 8th Hussars, and the Royal Ulster Rifles fought a fighting withdrawal through Happy Valley. Cyril was injured when his tank was destroyed and was held as a prisoner of war by the North Koreans. On 2nd July 1951, having spent five months in captivity, Cyril died due to the injuries sustained in January.
