UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

On 19 February, the British Korean War hero Mr. William Speakman was laid to rest at the UNMCK.

During the war, Mr. Speakman was awarded the Victoria Cross, the United Kingdom's highest military honor for gallantry in combat. Later, he expressed his wish to be buried in the soil of the country he fought to defend, and was buried in Korea in accordance with his wishes.

In attendance at Mr. Speakman's burial service were several members of his family, the Vice Minister of the Korean Ministry for Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the British Ambassador to Korea, the UNC Deputy Commander, and several Korean veterans of the Korean War.
